SNOW!!! It’s finally snowing here. I woke up at 8am and went back deciding to be lazy, waking up at 10am I decided the same thing, both times no snow. Then at 10:45 someone knocks on my window. I step out of my room and there before me is Sheena who is just as excited, if not more then me, to see the snow falling behind her and sticking on the ground. Definitely one of the better ways I’ve been woken up while trying to sleep in, certainly better then seeing James’s face at 10am on a Sunday (Sorry James, Sheena’s much better looking especially as the first person you see standing at the door when you wake up.) It’s so nice to see snow. Last night I went out around 10:30pm into a crisp cold night. I came back and told Malta it was finally winter in Darmstadt, and that all we needed now was snow, and we got it. To this point Darmstadt has stayed in a late Fall skipping to Spring mode with some days just below freezing, and other days of 50 degree weather and rain.

Most of you, especially those that have jumped ship for warmer states, are thinking I’m crazy for being so excited about snow. To me snow is a required part of winter. Between years of having to shovel feet of snow a year and being a serious skier, winter is not winter without snow. Though I’m not the most excited, I’m glad to see the snow for the fact that it’s snow. Sheena on the other hand was like a little girl that got the present she really wanted for Christmas. They see even less snow in Southern Britain then in Darmstadt, which is hard to believe considering how little Darmstadt gets. I can tell the instant she’s done with class she’ll be back at Karlshof playing in the snow. There might actually be enough to play in at that point. I was guessing we would only get about ¼-1/2 and inch, but we already have ¼ in the past hour, and it doesn’t look like it will stop anytime soon.

The snow fell for 5 hours this afternoon then started up again after a short pause. We’re somewhere in the 2 inch neighborhood. After class Sheena, Anne, and I spent 2 hours building snowmen/woman. As I was finishing mine up these two 12 year olds came up destroyed all four snowmen/woman after chatting with me for a bit. I tried holding them off, but two pushing against one even with the weight and strength advantage doesn’t work well on snow and ice. I got them back by nailing them with the base of my snowwoman, which was about a foot round. They ran off after that though both they and I had fun fighting with the snow for a bit.

After warming up for and hour in Sheena’s place with a cup of tee, I went and found Frida and Nia to join the exchange student snow fight taking place in the parking lot. It turned into an attack on the third floor guys because they were tossing snow balls from the balcony. It was quite an intensive hour of gaining and loosing ground on the third floor balcony. In the end we called a truce from lack of snow to make more snowballs. The night ended with a wonderful cup of hot chocolate. Nothing like and unproductive day being a kid again.
