Finallz back on for about another 40 min, but I have so much to write and i'm not on my comp. This german keyboard is crazy. The USB drivers aren't installed so I can't post pictures till I get my comp on the net.
To clarify. We did not drive that porsche. It was just parked infront of our hotel. We drove a Renault diesel mini van which was actually very good considering Renault is not known for its good cars, and I did not drive it on the way to Vienna. I drove Saturday on the way back to Heidleberg. I managed to hit 204kmh=127mph. Beats my U.S. record by about 3mph, but I wasn't in a van back home.
Friday(70, sunny)
I typed this out on my comp already, but couldn't transfer it like I had hoped. I'll post it when I get my comp on the net.
I spent the day doing my own walking tour through the city, went to Schönbrunn palace(imitaition of Versailles, bad outside good inside), and went to Vienna Philoharmonic Orchestra concert with my dad in the evening(extremely good, known for new years eve concerts).
Saturday <60 to 65, cloudy then sunny)
My dad and I went on a great guided bike tour of the city. We started at the recreational park south of the downtown area by about a mile. The park is about 4sq. mi. with a 3.1 mi straight away. Very nicely wooded with the occasional open areas. The guide took us past most of the things I saw on Friday, but provided a good deal of information on the building histories. One of the new things he showed us was the a Hunderwasser Hause. He was a Viennese artist with creative housing designs. People disliked his work till he died about 5 years ago. We didn't get to see the insides, but it would definetly make for interesting living if its anything like the gift shop across the street. (pictures posted) After that we drove for like 6 hrs to get to Heidleberg, and that was with us driving about 90-100 mph the entire way.
Sunday (65, partly cloudy then rainy)
Heidleberg is a much larger town then one might think. The old downtown area is very homely when you get off the main street running through it. The funniest thing in town is the McDonalds(check pic). The town is a good example of an 18th century german town dating all the way back to the 12th century.
The fort behind the town is offers a great view of the town on both sides of the river, and is interesting to walk around too. The buildings and facades are a mix of three different time periods, and each portion shows damage. My dad and I guess its mostly from the 2 world wars because one of the towers near the back could not have broken in half like it did with anything but a high explosive bomb or shell. The garden inside the fort is offers a nice place to hike and relax for free if you come in the back way. After a little walking around we headed back to the hotel to Cologne. Quite an ordeal because they are doing bridge work somewhere around Cologne on the autobahn and traffic was at a crawl for 30+ miles. Eventually we got off and found are way into the city on a different road. Are hotel is in a great location in the old inner city next to the cathedral here. I'll post again hopefully tuesday or wednesday.
