Last night was really cool. My brother Joe was out jogging at 1am, no clue why, and called me to let me know that you could see the Northern Lights. He was all excited about them, and said they were really cool. Most of us have seen them in movies or pictuers, never in person. I was excited to, but doubted our ability to see them another 140miles south of Chicago. I went outside, and could see occasional bars of light, but very faintly. We have street lights right outside the apartment. Luckily one of my roommates was still up, and willing to drive north of the city to the fields for a better view. Once we got to where it was darker the sky lit up. It was extremely cool. Being so far south we only saw a very light blue that looked white against the night sky, no other cool colors. We were satisfied with blue alone. The pattern constantly shifted form from rolling bars to a constant wave on the horizon with varying streaks into the sky of different length and brightness. Definitly worth a little cold air at one in the morning.
