Getting to Know People
We had a lot of fun last night and today. Our third roommate Pombos from Cypress showed up yesterday afternoon. He seems really cool and easy to get along with. He unfortunately does not speak any Italian, and needs to speak English with us.
The three of us started on our floor last night and headed to all of the floors between 1 and 5. At this point we seem to be the only guys in the tower besides some Brazilian guys on the first floor. We meet a really nice polish girl, Dorota, and an Israeli girl, Tal, that live on the floor below us. Dorota already signed up for internet, and we will be sharing with her and Tal once it is installed. We also meet a Chilean and Indian girl on the first floor and a French and Austrian girl on the fifth floor. Everyone is really friendly.
The biggest problem at this point is no one speaks Italian. We are all using English, and most of them speak nearly fluent English. Hopefully once language classes start tomorrow we can start speaking in Italian together.
Today Dave and I went around the city with Dorota and Tal. We started out around 10 clarifying the details of the internet plan and walked around from there. Aside from being a warm muggy day, it was nice walking around the city getting to know the girls. When we got back around 1:30 it was time to prepare lunch. I made a version of my roasted chicken and potato dish with sausage instead and had the girls over for it. Dinner turned out to be a great meal with wine and grapes and watermelon for desert. It seems that I am the only one that knows how to cook so my roommates and the girls have decided that I’m the cook. Everyone is going to take turns buying the food and doing dishes. It is a fair trade as far as I’m concerned. It is a lot easier cooking for a group of people than just me. It is also more fun to eat in a group.
I also bought a new cell phone today and put my Italian SIM card in it. If you want my number email me.
