First Day in Torino

After a short morning walk around the area by myself, Dave and I meet up with Mark again. He gave us the walking tour of a good portion of the city. We started out with the tourist center around our hotel, and then proceeded the apartment that Dave and I will be staying at. We then grabbed a Kabob, Turkish Gyro, and took the bus down to the University. The university is rather bland architecture, but amazingly large for being in the city.

From the university we walked to the Po river where the evening bars are at. The city of Torino is extremely flat since most of it was river bed at some point, but just across the river are some wonderful little hills that provided a beautiful view of Torino and the Alps as a backdrop. It was quite a climb up to a little church and lookout point, but we managed it after some huffing and puffing. To our chagrin a number of elderly, 70+, people were doing the same climb without any problem. Hugh statement about how physically lazy we are as Americans.

The shopping district is quite the misconception in town. Everything is really shopping on the main streets. Rather than have stores with floor space everything is displayed in windows or along the street for people to see. This allows you to walk and browse, and they can keep things in boxes, fairly effect in my opinion. The only problem with shopping is the price tag. Everything tries following the current fashion, which comes at a price.

Perhaps the best part of this style of shopping, is that the female shoppers remain in plain view. You ask, "Why is that important?" because the girls here are gorgeous on average, and super models at the hot end of things. I’m sure my female readers are disgusted. But for all you single and spoken for guys it brings a whole new meaning to tourist sight seeing, especially right now because the weather is in the upper 70s and sunny. I don’t know where weather underground got their mid 60s prediction from, but I’m glad they’re wrong.
