It's 2:20am, and I can't sleep because I slept from 8:30 till 10:30. I thought I would be able to sleep through the night between being tired and the bottle of wine that I drank with dinner at Heather's place, but seeing as that didn't happen, I figured I'd post.
As some of you know I changed my study habits this semester after less then satisfactory performance last semester. I have basically gone back to high school methods, i.e. after my 4 hours of classes from 9 to 3 I come home and due homework till about bed time. Painful as it may initially sound things have gone well thus far. Not only have I been able to keep up on all of my homework and reading, but I've occasionally managed to get ahead. Thus far my grades have been far better then last semester. My materials class is the only one that I've had trouble getting more than 7/10 on HW because forgetting to dot an i will loose you a point(not literally, but you get the idea).
On the bright side my engineering courses have started to get interesting. I actually had to design a system to gather energy from ocean waves the other day, and had a good time doing it. It reminded me why I like engineering amongst the boring book stuff we do. My advanced calculus class is taught by a Finnish Ph. D student who knows how to teach and actually make it enjoyable for the students. Though I could survive the course by reading the book and doing homework, he makes it worth attending. If only more teachers at the university level were like that.
German Literature rocks my world right now. The reading material is both intersesting and relatively easy for me to read, which makes it fun and easy course. Everyone in the class speaks at a level sufficient to have a conversation, and a number of us have either studied there or vacationed there for some period of time. I knew all last semester that I was missing using my German, but not until I started using it again this semester did I fully realize how much I missed it last semester, and how much fun I'm having using it again. Wednesday was an amazing day for my german. I went to the discussion group at a cafe from noon to 1:30 and chatted with some random people that were interested in speaking German and a departmental professor. I then had class from 2-3 followed by meeting up with Tina, austrian girl I meet on the bike team. We were at a cafe till 5. All said and done, about 4hours of speaking German out of 5. Almost like being back there for a day Today ended nicely as well. I walked one of the girls from my German class home who studied in Darmstadt the semester before me, and we spoke German the entire way, 20minutes or so.
After dropping her off, I went the extra two blocks to see how Paula was doing after being sick all weak and a fender bender last night. From her place back to mine, immediatly back to campus for dinner at another friend that I haven't seen in a while. I was impressed that her and her two roommates all drank wine. I brought a bottle of red because she was cooking pasta, and it turns out that her and her one roommate, just back from Italy last semester, like red. The other roommate opened a bottle of her german white, which about brings me back to coming home and going to sleep at 8:30.
By now I'm sure your all bored with the long post on the details of my week that I'm sure don't interested you. Hope things are going well for all of you. I'm off to beat another dungeon on Zelda, yeah for computer Roms.
