Start of Italian Class

Yesterday we had our orientation meeting and first day of language class. Although I had been led to believe that it would be too difficult for me, I find it to be the right level. There are definitely people that know much more than me, but I can keep up and catch up. Sunday will be the first day without class again, which will give me time to look back at the previous material and catch up.

The class has a good variety of students in it, but the majority seems to be French and German. So besides everyone already leaning towards using English, the other two major groups are speaking in their languages. This of course provides the perfect opportunity to speak German, but that doesn’t really help my Italian.

In the evening Dave, Dorota and I meet up with Mark, his roommate Amelia, and her friend Laura for drinks and an all you can eat appetizers. The food was pretty good considering we came at the end and it was cold. It was nice to finally have some time to socialize with Italians. Laura spoke about as much English as we speak Italian. The night turned into a learning session with too much alcohol. The Italians spoke English and we spoke Italian. Fun times overall. We definitely need more evenings like that.
