I'm Back

For those of you that were keeping up to date on my blog I am sorry there has been an absence of posts lately. I had a project due in one of my classes last Friday, and I was spending most of my free time trying to understand what I was supposed to do. I finished thanks to the help of some Italian girls in the class otherwise it would have been hopeless.

I left off with a very harsh post about Dave, and I stand by it although we have discussed the issue and things have gotten better. Not much else has really happened lately. We went to an excellent club on Friday night and had a lot of fun. I like that the clubs here play older music, I’m talking Beach Boys type stuff, and everyone gets into it. I somehow don’t see that happening in the states.

To avoid overwhelming my readers with too much at once I am writing a number of posts tonight, but will post them over then next few days. Going with a more reflective them I want to talk about Torino. As a whole I do not like the city. It is too big, dirty, noisy and smelly for me. Were we live outside the down town area the streets constantly smell of the dumpsters that line the street. You always have to watch were you are stepping, and the constant smell of car exhaust is nauseating. The cars themselves are a whole other problem. Even with an extensive transportation system people feel the need to drive around here, and they are very impatient. All morning long and again in the evening it is like a symphony of car horns. Seriously now, honking your horn doesn’t make it any more possible for the guy in front of you to move forward. If you are in such a hurry leave earlier and let me sleep.

Another major problem is the general level of crime in the city. In the center one does not have to worry much about crime of the above mentioned problems, but were we live you constantly feel a sense of insecurity. I in general don’t care and tend to ignore it. Anyone looking for a victim wants one that looks easy. If you act scared, you look easy. If you act confident then you are probably someone willing to put up a fight, and they have no interest in that. The unfortunate problem is that the girls don’t like going out at night. Some of them even feel unsafe when they are in a group or with us guys. This is both annoying and disappointing.

I think after my time here in Torino I will have had enough of big cities, and wont feel the need to live in one again for any lengthy period of time.
